Home Sweet Home

I just came across this rap video from a guy from my hometown of BCS. It is seriously perfect! My favorite part is: "product of Wheeler Ridge!" Enjoy a laugh on this lovely Friday!

I'll be back later tonight for a Friday edition of Thursday Roses. My camera died & I want to show some pictures from the past week!

Thursday Roses: 6.16.11

 Thursday Roses for the week:
  • A/C: Holy Cow is it not stinking hot outside? My office becomes an igloo throughout the day- to the point I have to go sit outside to thaw out for a few minutes. Instead of complaining everyday, I should be thankful my work even has an A/C!
  • My creativity: I've been stressing about putting the house together & helping to plan a Bachelorette party this weekend I forget how fun this is for me. My friend pointed out today that if I took away school this summer I would be having so much fun- she was right. When I'm working on my fun projects I need to stop and remember how much I enjoy it and not look at as a burden!
  • Fleas: Sam (Boo Boo) loves the yard but he picked up some fleas outside. It's been so frustrating to deal with honestly, I blame myself, feel bad, makes me think I don't take care of Sam, but AOK reminded me that Sam has them because he is loving running around outside while AOK is working in his shop. Sam never really got to play outside unattended before. Sam is LIVING IT UP! So i'm not going to be so frustrated about it anymore!
Have a great weekend ya'll.

Twins.

I want twins, they do not have to be identical, I will accept fraternal, but I need a twin pair of nightstands. I've been on the HUNT for a good month for the perfect nightstands for our Master Bedroom. I've searched thrift stores, Craigslist, Goodwill, yard sales, Homegoods... You name it, I've been there. I do not want to spend a small fortune on nightstands, after all, all I want it for is a lamp, pretty frame, and my glass of water at night. Why must it be so difficult?

Here is some inspiration from my heart:

I love the mirrored look, these make the room instantly feel dramatic and elegant. I think I might refurb our dresser to have the mirrored look. I also LOVE how big these are. we have a big wall, so taking up space could be nice!

Does this not look like a little desk made into a nightstand? I just love this room period.

How stinking cute is this? I love the leggy detail, however at $700 a pop these will not be coming to our house.

I LOVE how tall these are! We need tall because our bed is pretty tall. But again, at $400 a pop, I do not think so...

This is actually one of my favorites and all she did was change up a HomeGoods Find! Check out her neat blog with the link above! I love her Target bedding too.

Identical Twins... siiiiigh.

So show me what you have standing next to your bed! Would love to see what works for you!

Happy HUMP day!

(mmm)imosas

“Here’s my advice: Have a little faith… and if that doesn’t work- a lot of mimosas.”
 –Blair Waldorf, Gossip Girl

In the [spirit] of GG, my favorite guilty pleasure here is my favorite mimosa recipe. I promise you, these will make any bridesmaid brunch, breakfast event, or just Sunday morning in bed with that special someone a little bit sunnier. Enjoy!

Components:
Champagne (Just something semi- dry)
Orange Juice (fresh squeezed is DELECTABLE, but bottled is yummy too)
Grand Marnier
Fresh Raspberries
Chilled Water

Steppy Steps:
A day ahead of time drop a raspberry in each well of some ice cube trays. Fill up the trays with water and freeze overnight. When ready to serve plop 2 or so raspberry ice cubes in a champagne glass (or large wine glass- the way I like to drink it!).  Fill 3/5 the glass with champagne, add cold orange juice, but not quite to the top. Add 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier and stir. Add a cute orange slice or raspberry to the rim, serve and enjoy. Best served with friends.

AOK and me love mimosas. While we were in Vegas we had quite a few! I could drink them every morning, I just do not think my office would be too happy with me. Try out our recipe, I might surprise AOK one morning this week! Do any of you watch Gossip Girl? Any other guilty pleasure shows?

Thursday Roses: 6.09.11

Lots of buzz is stirring at our house (finally)! I've managed to start on some projects AND almost finish them! I cannot wait to share!

I've been reminded a couple of times this week how blessed/happy I am. When you work hard and you keep your heart open good things can happen. I've been trying to catch up with a friend of mine and she text me that she was sorry & not ignoring me but has been super busy lately going 90 MPH. I love Morgan for the fact that we can understand eachother in that sometimes life gets in the way and we get overwelmed, especially at work. She's going through a time like that right now. It made me remember something that was said at my aunt second mama's funeral a little over a year ago. We have to stop and smell the roses. No matter what pressure, stress, overwelmingness, whatever comes we have to remember we are only here for a short time and that life can and will EAT YOU UP if you let it! She attended the funeral last year and all I had to say was, "don't forget about the roses" and she instantly remembered.

In honor of this sentiment & my aunt Kathy, on Thursdays on this here blog I am going to share a few of my roses of the week. You can compare them to Andy Cohen's Mazel of the Week on his Bravo TV show. Does anyone else love this show as much as I do? I'm a Bravo nerd, what can I say?

Thursday Roses for this week:
  • Dinnner at home: AOK and me have made a pact to not eat out during the week and to cook at home. We have a GORGEOUS kitchen & awesome grill outside so we really do not have a reason to go out during the week at all. We not only save money but make memories of cooking in our own home. On Tuesday night this week, we made fish sticks, mac and cheese, and veggies! So gourmet right? Usually, I try out new recipes or try to do something semi-fancy, but this meal totally made us both smile. It's the little things right?
  • Meredith: My bff is coming to Huntsvegas this weekend so we can do a little shopping around H-Town for the house! Be prepared for a full post next week outlying our shenanigans! Can't wait to spend some long over due time with her!
  • Sam aka Boo Boo: In my last post, I mentioned that Sam the dog was coming to live with us. It has been so fun to have a dog, that's already trained, around the house. He is turning into a man dog and would much rather be outside in the shop with AOK than cooking inside with me. He's so loveable and his favorite thing to do is crawl on AOK's pillow when he's not looking. I get excited to see him when I pull into the driveway!
Hope you all are having a great week, don't forget about those roses! Care to share what yours are this week?

New Addition

Well, as of today we are getting a new addition! My little boo boo bear is coming to live with AOK and me! My mom's dog, Sam, who I call boo boo is taking up residence in ol' Huntsville! He's a shorkie, a cross between a shitzu and a yorkie. He is the most calm, snuggly, lovable dog on the planet and I'm so happy he's coming to live with us. He'll definitely love playing outside in the big backyard, chasing squirrels, and snuggling with us. Welcome to Huntsvegas Boo Boo!!

Here he is in his wedding attire. So cute.

We are making a trip to the Depot in the morning to get some supplies to get some jobs done this weekend! It'll be a productive one for sure!

Happy Friday,

Money Talks

Happy HUMP day!

I'm not happy about this hump day. Today, June 1st starts the first day of summer school. Usually I LOVE summer school because you are in and then you're out but this session I have a class at our remote campus about 30 minutes away TWICE a week. The class is from 6pm-10pm so I know my Tuesday and Thursday mornings are not going to be pleasant. PLUS it's a math analysis class, THE HORROR! I just have to keep in mind that in just 4 short weeks I will be done! Then in December I will have finished my MBA, that'll be a fantastic day, I probably will cry because my brain will finally have the ability to relax if only for a few minutes.

I mentioned my new boot camp yesterday that I wanted to share with all you guys. AOK's mama sent me a link to a website called Learnvest (Learn, Earn, Invest). It's all about strategies and tips to manage your budget. This could not have come at a better time for me. We are on a budget with having just bought a house, trying to fix it up all cute, and buy the neccesities as well. It makes my brain hurt a little thinking about it. I have a running list of purchases we have to make in the next few months. In this economy we have to make smart decisions and choices, you cannot waste your money or time. Not only will getting our finances on a regiman impact us now, but in the future as well.

Today's bootcamp tutorial is making you aware of your bills and how you organize them. Online banking will actually help you plan and succeed at paying bills on time (or even early!). Tonight, I will enroll in Paperless Bills, Autodrafts, and E-Reminders.

I encourage you to check this site out @ learnvest.com and figure out what you can do to prepare for your future. Can't wait to see where this takes us!

I know this is a rather boring post, but as young adults this is when we will make the decisions and habits that will affect us for the rest of our lives. This topic is important to me and I hope you will take it seriously. This weekend I hope to make some of our mantle decor (on the thrift of course!) Come back and check it out.

Do you guys have some money saving tricks? One of my best friends, Meredith, called the other night all excited about couponing. I wish I could get into it... maybe I need lessons! Anyone else use this strategy?

Thanks for sticking with me!
